

Voting for 59 Assembly constituencies distribute across 16 districts of Uttar Pradesh started on Sunday morning.


Polling started off at 7 am and will continue on until 6 pm.







This is the third period of the Assembly polls in the state, where elections are to be held in 7 rounds.

Sunday’s polling will also seal the fate of the Samajwadi Social gathering chief’s uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav, who is contesting from his common Jaswantnagar seat.


Ahead of the campaigning finished for the third stage on Friday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra undertook a door-to-door march in Kanpur, Kalpi, Jalaun and Hamirpur when BSP chief Mayawati addressed election conferences in Jalaun and Auraiya.


Samajwadi Get together patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav sought votes for his son Akhilesh Yadav in Karhal.


The BJP experienced approached the Election Commission trying to find deployment of paramilitary forces at all booths in Karhal.


Among the other notable faces in the fray in this stage are BJP’s Satish Mahana (Maharajpur in Kanpur) and Ramvir Upadhaya (Sadabad in Hathras), and Louise Khurshid, who is contesting on the Congress ticket from Farrukhabad Sadar.


Louise Khurshid is the wife of senior Congress chief Salman Khurshid.


Previous IPS officer Asim Arun is contesting from Kannauj Sadar on the BJP ticket although Uttar Pradesh minister Ramnaresh Agnihotri is also in the fray in this period.


In the 2017 Assembly elections, the BJP had received 49 of the 59 seats whilst the SP experienced settled for 9. The Congress had received 1 seat even though the Bahujan Samaj Bash (BSP) drew a blank.
