NEW YORK—The Taliban are trying to find to take part in the United Nations once-a-year gathering as section of the Afghan militant group’s hard work to earn worldwide recognition, just after its military services victory toppled Afghanistan’s U.S.-backed authorities.
The workplace of U.N. Secretary-Basic António Guterres gained a letter from Taliban international minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on Monday inquiring to take part in the U.N. Basic Assembly, in accordance to the U.N. spokesman Stéphane Dujarric. In the meantime, the group reported it experienced nominated Suhail Shaheen, a Taliban spokesman in its Qatar workplace, as its U.N. ambassador, Mr. Dujarric reported.
