MPs will just take a thirty for every cent income cut for a year and forego for two decades funds they get to spend on their constituencies to assist India fight the coronavirus pandemic, the union cabinet determined on Monday just after a virtual conference.

“Charity begins at home—this is a landmark final decision,” Union Minister Prakash Javadekar informed journalists just after the Cabinet conference.

MPs’ salaries will be cut for this year and funds from the Members of Parliament Neighborhood Place Growth Scheme (MPLAD) for 2020-21 and 2021-22 will be transferred to the Consolidated Fund of India. The government will introduce an ordinance to cut MPs’ salaries from April one.

The President, Vice President, state governors have voluntarily determined to just take pay cuts as a social duty. The cash will go to Consolidated Fund of India, stated Javadekar. India is under a three-week lockdown because of to the distribute of the coronavirus, which has derailed significant sectors of the economy and thrown 1000’s of immigrant workers out of work opportunities.
